Shurgard Greenwich
After the successful completion of the Romford Store, Shurgard engaged with us again to manage the construction of their newest Self Storage Facility in the Borough of Royal Greenwich. The site was historically a fuel depot and more recently a concrete parking area. The Greenwich facility is the largest store to be built in the UK at just over 12,500m2, it took 43 weeks to complete and was delivered under the £14 million budget.
There were early obstacles to overcome during construction including; a high water table, building next to Network Rail infrastructure, maintaining access to adjoining businesses and building to the redline boundary. One of the key milestones was also to provide a secure under-croft carpark with 76 spaces, 3 months prior to practical completion for our clients’ neighbour.
The finished building consists of ground + 4 stories with over 1400 partitioned units, a shop, staff room, plant rooms and 16 parking spaces.
The scope of works for this project included the following:
Demolition and recycling of existing structures
Testing & Commissioning
Office fit out
Partitioning
Electrical & Mechanical installation
Installation of 3 lifts
Under croft carparking and hard landscaping
Curtain walling and feature glazing
Externally illuminated signage
Composite cladding and roof
Structural steel frame with first floor R/C metal deck
Sub-structure works including; reduced level dig, pre-cast driven piling solution, low level attenuated drainage and RC slabs
